The Truth Behind Severity Reporting / CDI Opportunity Dollars
2022 did not disappoint in highlighting the multiple challenges that healthcare has faced over recent years. More specifically, hospitals and health systems in the US are on track to label 2022 as the worst year of the COVID pandemic in terms of margins and overall financial performance. All these challenges could be viewed as opportunities to improve processes, address inefficiencies, and work towards a leaner healthcare delivery model. Severity Reporting/CDI, like it or not, does help ensure that hospitals and health systems get appropriately reimbursed for the severity of their respective patient populations and the care delivered. Therefore, assessing opportunities to improve the capture of “dollar-related” severity can quickly get the attention of specific healthcare leaders, especially if these numbers are particularly large. Sadly, time and time again, we see very large numbers being flashed in front of healthcare leaders, without context and a good understanding of what is behind them and how they should be interpreted.
In this session, we will discuss how to interpret these large dollar amounts in opportunities that are used to get the attention of healthcare leaders. We will empower you to ask the right questions, identify possible pitfalls and flaws in assessments, and have a better understanding of how to identify true dollar-related severity reporting/CDI opportunities that you can actually budget for.
